Smarts Auto Wrecking Closing – The Bodies

Smart’s Auto Wrecking started out in Wenatchee Washington in 1955. With a passion for old cars Bud Smart helped keep those old rigs running by meticulously collecting, tagging and selling parts over the years. Smart’s is now closing down and selling the land. Before that happens Buds family want to preserve their Dads legacy by saving as many of these fine parts as possible by selling them to collectors. Everything has to go and whatever is not bought will be gone forever after being chewed up in the recycler.

Dolan Springs Arizona Auction

Leaving Vegas in the angry SS Camaro I took the wrong ninety something highway trying to head south to the Salton Sea. Always take the long way and enjoy the ride because when you do you stumble upon the greatest of adventures. Its the desert so you can fly without worry and the SS was doing just fine at about 95, at 100 the convertible top would start to complain. Blasting through 93 and in the middle of what looked like the surface of the moon I whiz past a lil parking lot of heavenly American Iron.

1918 Cadillac Type 57 goes on National Historic Vehicle Register

Over at Hemmings they have a look at the last World War I Cadillac to be found and documented. A fascinating story of how a dedicated owner tracked down the history of his Caddy to uncover its ownership chain. No doubt this adds to the value of the car but more importantly it documents the history of Cadillacs used in World War I. Unfortunately most of these ground breaking and revolutionary cars where recycled after the war.

Self Taught – Skoty Chops Kustoms

At some point in the long life of Bill Hines, the official honorary God and idol of Big Barkoz Speed Shop, he had no idea how to cut metal or sling around lead. How did he then get to his status as chop top legend and leading God? He taught himself. Onto the new generation of car kustomizers you can see this self taught process is still alive. Skoty Chops does an excellent and humble job of telling everyone how he got to where he is today, he went into the garage and figured it out.

2013 LeMay NASCAR Exhibit

I grew up watching NASCAR. I loved seeing the bumper to bumper banging action as the drivers plowed their way to win no matter the cost. But then the bumpers changed from metal to plastic. Once we lost the metal bumpers in NASCAR we also lost some of our car soul. I can trace the dying American car back to metal bumpers, when the metal left the soul left. We are now stuck with jellybean shaped, no soul having generic mobiles.
